Density grading of EPE foam

Polyethylene foamed cotton is a non crosslinking closed cell structure, also known as EPE foam , is a new type of environmental protection packaging materials. It is composed of numerous independent bubbles produced by physical foaming of low-density polyethylene grease. The utility model overcomes the shortcomings of ordinary styrofoam that is fragile, deformed and poor in recovery. It has many advantages, such as waterproof and moistureproof, shockproof, sound insulation, thermal insulation, good plasticity, strong toughness, recycling, environmental protection, strong collision resistance, and also has good chemical resistance. It is an ideal substitute for traditional packaging materials.

Generally, the density of EPE foam ranges from 20 to 28 kg/m3, and the density of high-density EPE foam also ranges from 35 kg/m3. The specific density grade you need should also consult the vendor. Professionals said that the density and quality of EPE foam have a significant relationship. Generally, the higher the density, the better the quality of the product. Because the higher the density, the faster it will recover after being pressed. It also shows that the elasticity of EPE foam is good. When it is used to package goods, it can ensure that it will not be damaged, There is also the high density of EPE foam . Although its softness is low, it can also maintain a certain degree of toughness when subjected to severe extrusion. At present, there are many density grades of EPE foam in the market, mainly depending on the demand for the corresponding density.

So, how do we know the density of EPE foam? The following formula is commonly used in the industry to calculate the density of EPE foam: density of EPE foam (kg/m3)=weight/volume of EPE foam (length * width * thickness). For example, if the EPE foam is 52 meters long, 1 meter wide, 0.007 meters thick, and 11 kg weight, then its density is 11/(52 * 1 * 0.007)=30.22 kg/m3

But we often encounter that the density of some foreign drawings is similar: 2.2PCF, 4.0 or 2.2lb. What does that mean? In fact, it is very simple, because European and American countries still use their traditional measurement units, including density. PCF is actually the English abbreviation of Pounds Per Cubic Foot, 2.2PCF, which is abbreviated to 2.2lbs in China. In fact, there are cubic feet left behind. So how to convert the density with domestic density? In fact, you only need to master the formula: 1 pound/cubic foot (lb/ft3)=16.02 kg/cubic meter (kg/m3), then these data conversion will become easy.

For example, if the density in the drawing is 2.2, then it is 2.2 pounds/cubic foot. If you change it to kg/cubic meter, simply multiply it by a 16.02 coefficient to get 35.24, which is about 35 kg/m3. That is to say, the data in the drawing represents the material with a density of 35 kg/m3. So 4.0 is 64 kg/m3, 6.0 is 96 kg/m3… and so on.
